Exhibit notes:
Interstice x Carlo Magno
The exhibit "Interstice" invites viewers to explore the enigmatic spaces that exist between form and fusion, light and dark, as well as the real and ethereal. Through a masterful blend of mixed media, including paint, metal, and resin, Carlo Magno delves into the materiality of his mediums, revealing how each element interacts to create a dialogue between presence and absence.
Magno, a virtuoso in manipulating light and texture, employs constantly evolving processes to capture fleeting moments and transitory visions. His works embody a sense of artistic alchemy, transforming ephemeral ideas into tangible forms that resonate with the viewer. Each piece serves as an invitation to contemplate the delicate balance between opposing forces-what is seen and unseen, known and unknown.
It is the intention of the exhibition for the iewer be immersed in the interplay of materials and concepts."Interstice" challenges us to recognize the beauty in the spaces we often overlook, celebrating the transformative power of art to bridge the gaps between our perceptions and experiences.
Waves of Blue x Victor Secuya
An artist's impact, more often than not, relies on their openness to embrace vulnerability. Waves of blue-an expression long tied to melancholy - are often compartmentalized in society, dismissed or tucked away as a sign of weakness. But for artists like Vic Secuya, being blue is like having a superpower: a state of sensitivity that allows deeper connection to the self, a way of seeing the world through a wider set of lenses.
Waves of Blue is an exhibit that visualizes the poem of an aching spirit, its tender hums and echoes explored through palettes of strong color and form. Rendered in tones of blue, these abstract figures carry the identity of Secuya's emotional journey. His blues symbolize the deepest parts of himself, almost intentionally losing himself in rumination, confused by the feeling yet certain of its truth.
Thus, Secuya's blues transform into a symbol of love, hope, and freedom. Its evolution mirrors the shifting flow of his spirit - restless in its searching, yet ever drawn to the deeper truths of the self.
About the artists:
Carlo Magno, a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene, is set to celebrate his illustrious 45-year career in the arts. He is best known for his mixed media abstracts, figurative artworks, and sculptures. However, it is widely known that he started and established himself in the art world as a hyper-realist, having had his first solo exhibition at Greenhills Art Center in 1981. It had caused quite a stir in the art community when he made the transformational shift from realism to abstraction after 20 years in the art scene. His exhibit, aptly titled "Transformation" with Galerie Joaquin in 2002, marked a meaningful change. Now, in his 45th year in the art scene, after having many successful one-man shows, Carlo Magno is out to show us that his art is still in a constant state of evolution and change, as he presents an entirely novel body of work in each exhibition.
Victor C. Secuya (b. 1957) is a self-taught artist who paints and writes. His medium of choice is painting, although he has produced metal sculptures for patrons both here and abroad. One of his sculptures, standing 20 ft tall, can be found in the heart of Brussels, Belgium. He is also a prolific essayist, writing about art, culture, and life in general, with four books to his name.
Educated mostly by Jesuit schools, he completed courses in philosophy and sociology, graduating cum laude from Ateneo de Davao University. As a young, struggling artist, Secuya worked as a university professor, museum curator, and design consultant.
In his more than 40 years of art career, he has mounted 27 one-man shows in several galleries and art venues. His works are collected by various clients for their peculiar originality.
His artistic philosophy is founded on authentic self-expression, with many of his pieces being provocative rather than merely decorative. Secuya despises repetition, believing that each piece must exude a soulful presence. He does not rest on his laurels; his attitude as a seasoned artist is to always remain a beginner. He considers his next artwork as his best, continuously learning something new every day. Never satisfied with what he has already accomplished, he remains committed to exploring, experimenting, and staying open to new possibilities.
