1st Asian Master Chefs Competition at Manila Hotel

No, I am not a chef but a mere food lover, dessert lover to be precise. So, I know something about desserts, laic and little it may be.

With savories on the other hand, my knowledge is even more limited. My taste buds were never developed into that of a connoisseur's, not even after watching countless food shows (and its reruns) and trying to comprehend how the judges come to pronounce their verdict and have a chef pack their knives and go. Maybe I should learn to cook.

Now here's my chance, and yours, to catch a "food fight" real time. A fancy one at that since it will be held at the Grand Dame- the Manila Hotel. How chic can a duel of culinary minds get?

Manila Hotel partners with the Chinese International Gastronomers Association (CIGA) will host the first Asian Master Chefs Competition on April 23, 2012 at the Manila Hotel.

This prestigious event will witness the gathering of Asia’s talented and professional chefs as they showcase their culinary expertise. The Asian Master Chefs Competition is organized by CIGA, a group founded by food critics, writers, and culinary professors in Taiwan dedicated in the promotion of Chinese and Taiwanese cuisines. Since 2007, CIGA has been actively organizing cooking competitions and exhibitions in Taiwan, China, and other Asian countries.

Manila Hotel will set the stage for the biggest cooking competition as more than 60 skilled chefs from different countries battle for the title of 1st Asian Master Chef. This time-pressure cooking challenge is open to local and foreign chefs and will allow the contestants to showcase the dishes of their country. Judges will determine the winners based on presentation, taste, originality, and creativity.

The entry dishes will be on display on the same day at the Fiesta Pavilion. After the awarding, an exclusive banquet dinner prepared by the participating Chinese and Taiwanese chefs will be offered for PhP 2,500.00 per person.

“It’s a good story if it’s like Manila Hotel,” Ernest Hemingway once said. This culinary feast for the senses will be another delicious story to tell.
