The Department of Tourism recently launched the Tourism Star Philippines Program. This program is a recognition to honor tourism frontliners and individuals who go the extra mile in giving the tourist a delightful experience, exemplifying the true Filipino hospitality in their work place; also for Local Government Executives whose leadership and projects have created and have boosted tourism in their respective localities.

Furthermore, Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez Jr. expanded the search to include: THE MEDIA TOURISM STAR with the following categories: Tourism Star RADIO, Tourism Star TV, Tourism Star PRINT & Tourism Star DIGITAL (bloggers).

Although IAN GARCIA has been a TV personality for more than 10 years and recently, a radio show host, it has been his efforts as a newspaper columnist for Mindanao Times that earned him a nomination in THE MEDIA TOURISM STAR - PRINT CATEGORY.

If there is one person I know who has "scoured" (read: traveled) Mindanao extensively and wrote about  how truly fun it is in Davao, Mindanao & the Philippines, it would be this guy. Ian regularly shares his stories about Davao & Mindanao travel & lifestyle in his column in Mindanao Times.
