Marks & Spencer brings the taste of UK in Davao


UNITED Kingdom is one of the largest consumers of tea since the 18th century. In the country, tea is not only the name of the beverage, but a late afternoon light meal as well. Served at four o’clock, it is the meal that staves off hunger between luncheon and supper.

Aside from sconces, clotted creams and jams, biscuits make for good accompaniment to tea. It has become a custom in Britain for these popular light snacks to be dunked in tea.






Sharing the UK tradition and flavors, British retail giant, Marks & Spencer, hosted a Tea and Tea Biscuits Tasting event at the Food Hall of the M&S SM Lanang Premier.







M&S Loyalty Card members along with the other special guests of Marks & Spencer were treated to the M&S flavorful teas and rich-tasting biscuits.

Served at the afternoon affair were the tea collection of M&S that included the traditional teas— the 80 EVERYDAY TEA and DECAFFEINATED TEA, both with a smooth, refreshing flavor, perfect for drinking at any time of the day; BREAKFAST BLEND TEA presents a lively, brisk flavor that's a great pick-me-up and naturally refreshing; the LUXURY GOLD TEA that offers a 'true' tea flavor- full, yet naturally smooth and sweet; EXTRA STRONG TEA, rich flavor that's deliciously full-bodied without tasting stewed); and the popular GREEN TEA that bears a light, delicate and refreshingly crisp flavor.

Guests nodded to the flavorful and stimulating “punch” of the tea infusions—the crisp, light and refreshing flavors of the ORGANIC GREEN TEA WITH JASMINE, ORGANIC GREEN TEA WITH LEMON, ORGANIC PURE GREEN TEA and the PURE PEPPERMINT INFUSION; the sweet, fragrant and relaxing PURE CHAMOMILE INFUSION TEA made from Golden Chamomile flowers; the CALMING TEA made from Chamomile, Lime flowers and Lavander; the rich, fruity taste of summer berries in the STRAWBERRY & RASBERRY INFUSION TEA; the CRANBERRY & ELDER FLOWER TEA with its rich fruity infusion, fragrant Elder flowers with sweet raspberries and tangy cranberries; and the warming and uplifting infusion of LEMON GINGER & GINSENG TEA that extends the flavor of spicy ginger with zesty lemon.








Marks & Spencer prides itself with its teabags that contain only the soft, young leaves of the bush are handpicked for this blend, when they're just at the right stage of maturity. The gentle handling and careful selection means that the leaves aren't bruised or damaged before the tea making process begins.

Accompanying the teas was a spread that presented the wide tea biscuit collection of M&S that includes the perfect “dunking” biscuit—the RICH TEA FINGER BISCUITS, which are made with melted barley.






Enjoyed with tea were other delectable treats of M&S—the DARK CHOCOLATE JAFFA CAKE, golden sponge topped with tangy orang and half coated in dark chocolate; REDCURRANT PUFFS and BLUEBERRY PUFFS, the light and golden puff pastry biscuits with a fruity filling; the rich, buttery SHORTBREAD FINGERS, LUXURY SHORTBREAD ROUNDS, and SHORTBREAD SELECTIONS, baked in Scotland to M&S’ exclusive recipe; melt in your mouth DUTCH SHORTCAKE CHOC, dipped in Belgian Milk Chocolate; OAT CRUNCH BISCUITS; the CUSTARD CREAMS BISCUIT, sandwiched with smooth vanilla flavor cream; and the popular DIGESTIVE BISCUITS, MILK CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVES and the DARK CHOCOLATE DIGESTIVES, all made with demerara sugar for crispier, crunchier texture.






Highlighting the event is an exhibition that showcased the exquisite tea set collections of six of Davao’s collectors—Kay Gempesaw, Carol Co, Erika Mata, Katrina Briones, and sisters Angel Go and Marydict Rosales.
