The Araw ng Dabaw is one of the busiest times in Davao. It gives everyone a reason to celebrate for a day, a weekend, a week and even the entire month. Nothing to complain about, except for the traffic jam and weight gain.
Food took center stage, as usual. Misto at Seda Abreeza served heavy hitters on the buffet table—rice toppings in six variants that paired well with the grilled fare. Then Marco Polo Plaza Cebu came to Davao and dished out Mango Bango, a four-course meal that highlighted Cebu’s popular fruit, and its sister hotel’s “House of Buchi”, the Lotus Court, brought back its Sunday dim sum lunch buffet as well.

For a “purposeful dining” experience, IChef worked with celebrity chef Sharwin Tee and whipped up an all-Davao inspired menu. It was a charity dinner that handed 100 percent of the proceeds to two beneficiaries. Busog applied to the tummy and the heart.

The ratio must have been 10 stalls to one truck in the Food Truck Festival, which probably defeated the event’s purpose, but that didn’t matter. The people went anyway. Serve good food and they will come. Show more food trucks though next time and give the label justice.

Ole, La Lola Churreria is in town! The good ol’ Spanish pastry is made from scratch, cooked when ordered and served with love (and chocolates). The dips though are a bit too sweet for my taste. I’m good with cinnamon and sugar.

There is a spike on the art scene graph and this is very encouraging for the emerging artists.
The recent Art in the Park event chose an ideal venue to reach out to people of all social classes. Small was how Salcedo Park’s Art in the Park started and look at where it is now. If you’re in Manila today, witness the once in a year art spectacle. Let’s support our version and make it a bigger affair by the year.

PWC’s graduation class exhibition in Abreeza covered visual arts, industrial, interior and fashion designs. It was a good exposure for the young talents and avenue for the school and instructors to showcase what the students learned.

Fashion Design student Dally Amandaron did a great job in the senior’s competition. Her clean lines and detail stood out from the rest. The undergrads could learn from this lady why quality is the twin of their craft. As to why the younger ones’ collections were given the go signal to work the ramp by their instructors, I am still wondering.

Chimes presented a pop-up show featuring the new labels on the retail floor. Interesting selection they have but for a homegrown store I still have to see if Davao fashion labels will end up on the roster. Davao is teeming with talents. Do tap them.
