The 53rd Hijos de Davao, Part 2

The aura is quite different in this year’s Hijos de Davao celebration. The elegance of the Davaoeños filled the tastefully appointed ballroom quite nicely. The scene was quite relaxed, as expected of an affair where attendees know each other, and quite festive, perhaps because there are more good reasons to celebrate.

Indeed there were.

“Tonight’s 53rd Founding Anniversary of the Hijos de Davao is made more special by th fact that Davao City is celebrating the 80th Anniversary of its inauguration as a Chartered City this year. To give honor to the original inhabitants of Davao, tonight we are having a fashion show that will showcase the indigenous native wear of the 11 recognized tribes of the Davao region,” said Hijos president, Vincent Garcia.

Yes, the fashion show highlighting Mindanao culture added the color, the next generation hijos and hijas’ performance was quite entertaining and drew the biggest smiles from the crowd, and I must commend the good showmanship of the live band.

Perhaps the most evident of the changes was seen on the dance floor. It’s usually the elders who trip and twirl on the floor, but this year, it’s the younger generation who rocked it. Seeing that, Hijos de Davao will be in good hands in the coming years.
