PIDV  General Manager - Sven Toune and Davao City Vice Mayor - Hon. Melchor Quitain strikes the gong signifying the opening

Park Inn by Radisson Davao ushers in the month of August with the launch of its annual exhibit, titled “A Kadayawan Canvas: Weaving Arts, Fashion, and Culture.” The exhibit opened on the 9th of August at the hotel’s ground floor lobby, drawing an esteemed gathering of local government officials, tourism representatives, honorable consuls, corporate partners, media personalities, and social influencers.

The event was also graced by Davao City Vice Mayor, Hon. Melchor Quitain, who shared heartfelt words of gratitude for the hotel’s unwavering support of the local arts, fashion, and cultural scene. He also extended his appreciation to the talented exhibitors who showcased the vibrant creativity of the Mindanawon people.

"A Kadayawan Canvas: Weaving Arts, Fashion and Culture” marks the third consecutive year that Park Inn by Radisson Davao has hosted an exhibit in celebration of the city’s Kadayawan Festival - a major cultural event in Mindanao that expresses gratitude for nature’s bounty, rich cultural heritage, abundant harvests, and the peaceful way of life.

This year, the exhibit takes a fresh approach by integrating elements of fashion and culture alongside visual arts.

Consistency is a key value for Park Inn by Radisson Davao, and this year the hotel has once again partnered with GAMA, or Grupo ng mga Aktibong Mindanawon Artists. This talented group, hailing from across Mindanao, is dedicated to promoting local artistry, talent and creativity. Their inspiring vision is brought to life through art pieces that highlight the colorful and intricate textiles and weaves unique to Mindanao.

This exhibit also shines a spotlight on Ayla Pearls, a burgeoning jewelry shop renowned for its authentic South Sea pearls, distinctive jewelry designs. Ayla Pearls is rapidly gaining recognition, having participated in exhibitions locally, nationally, and internationally, including in Dubai and Singapore. Highlights of this year’s exhibit include a bespoke golden South Sea pearl pendant necklace featuring an emblem of the Philippine Eagle and a unique ear cuff inspired by the Philippines’ “King of Fruits,” the durian, crafted in gold and diamonds.

Adding to the exhibit’s allure are clothing pieces and ensembles from Bina Batik, an independent fashion label from Cotabato City. Bina Batik offers a range of ready-to-wear traditional and contemporary pieces, showcasing textiles not only from the Philippines but also from Thailand and Malaysia. Their commitment to sustainability—creating stunning, distinct and eco-friendly ensembles from upcycled fabric pieces—further sets this brand apart.

“As we revel in the Kadayawan Festival, we invite you to spread the word about this exhibit, running from today until September 9th. Your support not only promotes the stunning artistry of Mindanao but also contributes to the education of our partner school's students.” as emphasized by Park Inn by Radisson Davao’s General Manager, Sven Toune.

As part of Park Inn by Radisson Davao’s commitment to responsible business practices and sustainable initiatives, 15% of the proceeds from each piece sold in this exhibit will be turned over to provide art supplies, educational materials and necessary needs for the students of Malamba Elementary School - G. Astilla Sr. Cultural Minority High School in the Marilog District. This shows the hotel’s dedication to nurturing the future artists of the island of Mindanao.
