Stockbridge American International School proudly announces its official recognition as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, becoming the first and only authorized IB World School in Mindanao.
This historic milestone marks a significant leap forward for international education in the region, opening new doors for children and families in Mindanao to access globally recognized, values-driven learning—without leaving home. With its authorization to offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), Stockbridge joins a prestigious global network of schools known for academic excellence, innovation, and a deep commitment to developing compassionate, reflective, and empowered learners who aim to shape a better and more peaceful world.
“We’ve always believed that children in Mindanao deserve the same world-class education available in the most progressive learning communities,” said Dyan Bian-Cortez, Director for International Programs “Becoming an IB World School fulfills that promise—and shows families in the region that their children can thrive, compete, and lead on a global stage.”
The IB framework is internationally respected for its focus on inquiry-based learning, international-mindedness, and holistic development. Its graduates are highly sought-after by top universities and are known for their ability to think critically, act ethically, and lead with empathy.
The milestone was celebrated during a special event held on June 19, 2025, at the Stockbridge campus in Maa, Davao City. The event featured the formal announcement of the school’s IB authorization, an inspiring student-led Primary Years Programme Exhibition (PYPX), and interactive booths that showcased how inquiry, action, and reflection come to life in the Stockbridge learning experience.
The occasion also marked Stockbridge’s 10th anniversary since rebranding in 2015. From its humble beginnings as a small preschool in 2002 to its transformation into a forward-thinking international school, Stockbridge has remained committed to its mission of shaping globally minded changemakers guided by its LIONS Core Values: Leadership, Integrity, Open-mindedness, Nobility, and Stewardship.
“This isn’t just a celebration for our school—it’s a celebration for Mindanao,” added Bian-Cortez. “It proves that international education of the highest standard is now accessible right here in our own region.”
