Holiday Looks/Picks

TO ACHIEVE the look of current trends, you don’t have to spend a fortune. The key pieces may already be in your closet—a white shirt or khaki shorts, that printed top or billowing skirt in the color of the season, or the little black dress—your ever-reliable basic pieces, your best friends. To complete the look, accessorizing will do the trick.

Accessories are great investments, the good, statement pieces can last a lifetime and adhere to several trends. For the more faddish articles you have, don’t get rid of the just yet, knowing how the cycle of fashion works, you may be needing those again sooner than you think.

For the last quarter of 2012, these are the season’s major trends—the Army, the Wild West & Victorian. Wear them! Get those key pieces out of the closet and complete the look with layers and layers of accessories.

How the west was won.

The Wild West is once again revisited. The collection is young and the colors are dominated by brown tones, pink and red. The cowboy boots are studded and are a must have for the season, complimented by the cowboy hats and neckerchiefs.

For a more subdued look, work with pieces in white against khaki or black, denims, dainty florals on shades of brown and accessorize with leathers in the shade of brown—wide belts, tasseled bags, hints of green and striking gold pieces on your wrists and neck will liven up the look.

In the army now.

The army look brings camouflage to the forefront. But show restraint, keep in mind it’s only the influence you’re after, not the full battle gear. Use it sparingly and play it up with accessories.

Khakis and blue tones are in the jewellery, printed scarves and handbags. Army boots are marching, with appliqués this time, and complete the look with mirrored sunglasses and fluorescent clutches.

Victorian, Victorian

Dress up in rich, luscious materials like lace and silk, in deep colors for the evening or a touch of lighter colors against the dark for a daytime look. Accessorize with bejeweled pieces and chunks of gold to complete the look.

The sophisticated Victorian influence can be found in brocaded scarves, turbans and metal belts. Black and gold are the colors highlighted in this season’s clutch. The jewelry is intense, with a luxurious winter feel which can also be used for a more casual look.
