Lunching with the new people in town

Two new faces enter Davao’s hospitality scene. Over lunch at their respective hotels, they were introduced to us.

At Seda Abreeza, it was a three-in-one affair. The gathering started with a quick turnover ceremony with Hotel Manager Ken Kapulong handing over all raised funds to Dennis Salvador, PEF’s Executive Director.

The partnership between Seda and the Philippine Eagle Foundation commenced during the Kadayawan season until September. Funds raised came from the proceeds of “Ascend,” the featured drink of the month in honor of the eagle Fighter, donations from guests over the last two months and the souvenir items availed by the hotel part of its room accommodations.

It was a good time to celebrate the successful partnership as Misto restaurant launched its new food promotion highlighting steaks (thank you chef for whipping up a salmon dish for me). Kicking off this month until the end of November, meat lovers will feast on a good sized serving as part of a set menu —Salad of choice to start, then Grilled US Angus Rib Eye or T-Bone served with Mashed Potato with Truffle Oil, Vegetables and Parmesan Tuile, and Tablea Brownie Ala Mode for dessert.

On Fridays, more treats come with the steak as the Salad and Dessert Bars offer more choices to start and end the meal with.

Dessert bar is open every Friday. This Fruit Tart- fresh fruits, whipped cream on merengue, is not too sweet. Love it!

Over dessert, the hotel’s new F&B Manager, Oliver Evangelista, was introduced to us. He has twelve years of experience on his sleeve starting his career as a dining waiter and –worked his way up to his current position.

Over at Marco Polo Davao a few days after the Oriental festivity at Lotus Court followed by the English afternoon tea at the Lobby Lounge, I found myself again in the hotel premises—to enjoy Polo Bistro’s offering in the company of the new Director of Sales and Marketing, Pearl Peralta-Maclang.

The charming lady has worked for three decades in the Philippine hospitality business with stints in most of the country’s reputable business hotel brands like Century Park Sheraton Manila, Manila Pavilion Hotel, and IHG hotel properties.

She is no stranger to the Marco Polo Hotel chain as she was the Director of Sales and Marketing for Marco Polo Ortigas, Manila and spent three years as Vice President for Sales & Marketing under FilArchipelago Hospitality Inc. where she spearheaded significant sales and marketing programs for its current portfolio of three hotel properties. Her expertise in pre-opening properties and hotel re-branding will benefit Marco Polo Davao in its positioning as a premier business hotel in Mindanao.

Over sumptuous lunch, MPD General Manager Dottie Wurgler-Cronin shared that the hotel group is pleased to designate Pearl Peralta-Maclang as the Davao property’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “We believe that with her expertise, Pearl will bring strategic marketing initiatives and strengthen Marco Polo Davao’s presence as Mindanao’s only deluxe hotel,” she added.

Looks like October is another month for feasting, and welcoming Oliver and Pearl to Davao were two good reasons to do so.
