It’s this time of the year when you hear the Brazilians (through one of their most popular iconic figures, the Havaianas) say ‘obrigada’ to its friends in the city. It’s the annual tradition of the popular footwear brand and its regional distributor, Martish, to say thank you via a festive, themed event that gathers the media and its current influencers. The affair also gives the guests a peek into the new flipflop collection for the year.

This year’s Obrigada was all about self-expression through written words and image interpretation on canvas. April San Pedro of Yellow Hauz gave an intro lesson on calligraphy and soon after, her students came up with their artworks on their personalized shopping bags.

Timely.More than an event of gratitude, Obrigada is the signal that summer is around the corner, the season for flipflop fashion.
A pop-up MYOH (make your own Havaianas) was set up in the same room where all the guests were handed a pair of Havaianas, which were adorned with pins personally selected by its wearer from an array of stylish selection of motifs from sporty to travel to Filipino icons.

Surprisingly, there was a jeepney pin among the collection, which I singled out to embellish my Havaianas pair. The finished product matched the shopping bag I designed.

Just like everyone in the room, the personalized pair went into the personally designed shopping bags. No one left the venue empty.
