The pageantry in pink. Miss Earth 2016 & the Pink Party at Waterfront Insular Hotel

Beauties from across the globe converge in the PI to compete for the title of Miss Earth 2016—and have fun in Davao.

Miss Earth Miss Philippines Earth, believe it or not, is owned and run by a Philippine organization, Carousel Productions.

It was only recently that I found out about it over chitchat with Lorraine Shuck, EVP of Carousel, during the presentation of the Department of Tourism major plans for the Davao Region. All along I thought it was owned by an international organization. Of course, I can’t help but be proud.

Davao was made one of the stops for the pageant’s program. The 84 Miss Earth candidates were to be toured around the region, the attractions of which we will see on TV on coronation night.

With October as the Breast Cancer Awareness month, the environmental advocates supported the cause by wearing pink at the fundraising event at the Pink Party of the Waterfront Insular Hotel. The event also served as the welcoming party for the delegates.

“For October the hotel is offering signature pink promotions in rooms and dining called “Pink Matters”, a month-long initiative that is symbolized by a logo of a turtle with the pink ribbon, the international symbol of breast cancer awareness. In many cultures, the turtle is a symbol of endurance and persistence. It indicates longevity and the continuation of life, sometimes against incredible odds. It is with this reason that this was chosen as the signature emblem for this campaign that they intend to continue in the years to come. The Management believes that not only do these initiatives bring hope and healing, but more importantly they represent the goodness of people and businesses that publicly support the breast cancer movement,” shared Bryan Yves Lasala, the hotel’s general manager.

No competition on that night, just an evening of fun and fundraising plus a million selfies with the candidates with their fans. If it didn’t raise a million for the program perhaps the gathering will heighten the awareness of a million women or more in a show segment when pageant airs.
