Let’s create gardens of blooms and verdant forests where birds can flourish and fly.
Kadayawan. The 11 tribes of Mindanao will beat their drums to celebrate. The majestic Mt. Apo will show off its peak. Farmers will create hills of freshly harvested fruits. Flowers will flaunt its radiant hues. The icons of Mindanao.
Amid the celebration, Davao artists wield their paint brushes to capture the beauty of the region’s iconic flora to heed the call for help of another icon—the Philippine Eagle.
The upkeep and several programs of the Philippine Eagle Center (PEC) rely on guest admission fees. The pandemic has not been kind. Closing the center’s gates to visitors during the ECQ periods also shut down a vital source of funds. The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) went online with virtual tours, educational shows and film features to raise funds.
Now comes the breeding season for the Philippine eagles and PEF is reaching out to us.
In a social media post: “With the second indefinite closure of the PEC due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we once again ask the public to help maintain the PEC as a sanctuary for our national bird and other wildlife. The breeding season for Philippine Eagles is upon us! And as the only conservation breeding facility for the Philippine Eagle in the world, we need your help now more than ever to keep the PEC a safe and conducive place for them to breed.”
The art fundraising project, Flowers for Feathers, is appropriate for the Kadayawan. It will capture one of the most alluring features of the region during the season—the blooms. Orchids and tropical flowers flourish at this time of year.
Upon hearing about the plan, eleven Davao artists didn’t hesitate to say yes to the cause. Participating in the fundraising project are Lito Pepito, Anthony Serafin, Brando Cedeño, Anna Cedeño, Arnel Villegas, Saldy Mascardo, Jing Rabat, MeAn Guinoo, Otoi Mercado, Vanessa Ong, and Benjie Yu. The artworks will be sold online via ofapplesanlemons.com, Facebook: ofapplesandlemons and Instagram: jibe_our_vibe. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the breeding program of the PEC.
Each piece in the collection is a collectible and covetable. What’s best is the artists agreed to offer the artworks any collector can grab on impulse. By owning one, the flowers will soon give birth to feathers.

However, should you wish to purchase any piece higher than the artist’s price, the donation will be highly appreciated.
100% of the proceeds will be donated to the breeding program of the Philippine Eagle Center.
