Since I've caught your attention, please read why a lot of us Dabawenyos got confused with this year's Kadayawan festival....

The conflicting statements of the officer in charge has rattled the visiting guests of Davao's liveliest festival. He issued his press statement on May 12, 2012 announcing that the Kadayawan 2012 schedule is slated on August 24-26 this year (story) which caused a stir among the Dabawenyos, and issued another statement days after.
Since the inception of Kadayawan, the festivity has culminated its week-long celebration on the 3rd weekend of August. But the announcement on this year's change of dates surprised everyone. Most affected are those who have purchased their plane tickets in advance to avail of promo rates the domestic airlines were offering. Davao is one of the costliest route to travel making it an "unpopular" destination for most of our local tourists. But the low-cost airlines changed all that.
In fairness to Jason, he clarified why the said dates and posted this "according to councilor" statement in a social networking site:

If you ask me, it is mostest easiestest to count forward than backwards in the calendar. This is why Mother's Day is always celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of May, not on the 3rd to the last Sunday, and Father's Day on the 3rd Sunday of June, and not on the 2nd to the last Sunday. It's but logical. Bakit pahihirapan ang sarili?
