{ jeepneyjinggoy stop } The slaying of the innocents

Depressing-- The Khmer Rouge tortured and slew the (perceived) subversives during its 4-year rule of Cambodia.

More depressing-- the children included.

Why? Because they believed total reform should be addressed from the roots.

During my recent visit to Phnom Penh, I got to visit the Choeung Ek Genocide Center, fifteen kilometers from the city center. This is one of the sites of The Killing Fields.

The audio tour took me around the once orchard and came across this.

This is the bamboo fence that encloses one of the mass graves in the compound.
Visitors from all over would leave a wrist band and a prayer for the souls of the young genocide victims.

Right beside the mass grave is the Killing Tree where children were slain -- not by hanging.

The executioners would grasp the child by the feet, swing him/her like a bat and hit the head by the trunk of this tree.

Heart-wrenching.
