The 51st Hijos de Davao, Part 2 ~ D' Durian Daily

WITH much pride, Jackie Garcia steps down as president of the Hijos de Davao Foundation. Her tenure as the leader must have been challenging, having been elected on a most important time for the organization, the 50th year.

During her term, Jackie Dizon, together with the members of the board, was able to hurdle two milestones for Hijos -- the publishing of the coffee table book, Hijos de Davao: Witnessing Growth, which chronicles the progress of the organization since its conception as social club and the people instrumental in the city’s growth, and the partnership with the City Mayor’s office to start a weaving project that will preserve and promote the culture of the lumads.

She passes the torch of leadership to Vincent Garcia whose father, Manuel “Nonoy” Garcia, held the same position as the second president of Hijos fifty years back.

“This makes tonight’s event doubly special for my family,” he said.

As Jackie thanked and commended the entire organization and outgoing officers for jobs well done, and the hijos and hijas de Davao who came to celebrate another joyful gathering, so did Vincent.

He also requested the same support from the newly inducted officers, and from the board of director as well, during his incumbency. Under his term, the new projects of Hijos de Davao will be implemented.
